Lectureship in Geochemistry/ Environmental Geology. School of B.E.E.S

Permanent Whole-time Appointment University College Cork seeks to recruit a College Lecturer in Geochemistry/Environmental Geology within the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences (School of BEES). Reporting to the Head of School, the appointee will be required to provide strong research and teaching particularly in support of the MSc in Environmental Geology and related administration. The successful candidate will be required to develop and teach modules in Geology as part of undergraduate and postgraduate curricula and to develop an innovative Geological research programme(s). Research expertise applicable to the area of geochemistry and/or environmental geology is desirable and an ability to contribute to undergraduate geochemistry/hard rock teaching and the MSc in Environmental Geology is essential. Applicants must hold a doctoral qualification in Geology or a related area, demonstrate evidence of peer-reviewed publication, and the potential of establishing/furthering a research programme(s) attracting external funding with collaborative links nationally and internationally. Compatibility of research interests with national and international geological research priorities and complementary to, and an enhancement of, those of the School is desirable. An understanding of current effective teaching practice and an ability to coordinate and teach field modules is essential. The School of BEES, within the College of Science, Engineering and Food Science (SEFS), comprises the academic disciplines of Geology, Environmental Science, Plant Science, Zoology and Ecology. The School currently offers nine undergraduate programmes, two taught MSc programme, three MRes programmes, one postgraduate diploma and three full- and part-time undergraduate diplomas. The School has close links to the Environmental Research Institute (ERI) and the Irish Centre for Research in Applied Geosciences (iCRAG) where the appointment would be expected to make a contribution. Appointment will be made on the Lecturer Below the Bar Salary Scale, €32,821 – €57,967 (Scale B); €34,625-€55,159 (Scale A).
